Not Having a Goal
A common problem with a lot of people who want to succeed is not identifying their goal. A goal is what you have set out to get done within a given time.
Choosing a goal creates a sketch of what you want to achieve in life. It is a path that defines who you are and what you want to be. It is your road-map to success.
Without a goal, there will not be a plan. Without a plan, there is no success. And without success, life becomes less meaningful. You need to identify a goal that is worth your pursuit.
A benefit of choosing a goal you want to succeed in is that it helps you narrow down actions and concentrate your resources around your planned goal.
Imagine a man who wakes up in the morning full of energy, sets out, and boards a taxi without a clear destination in mind. He most probably will end up in the middle of nowhere having wasted all his energy.
Set a goal. Get a pen and paper. Write down a list of your goals. Create a plan. Concentrate your resources on the goal(s). Execute and excel.
Since it is practically impossible to achieve all goals, successful people choose a specific goal and concentrate their resources on that goal.
Thus, because you don’t have all the time, all the resources, and all the opportunities possible to yourself and yourself alone, you probably are going to leave some goals and focus on others.
The most important is to have a goal, a purpose. If you have a goal, you have a chance to succeed.

Choosing a Wrong Goal
Know this as a fact: everybody can’t possibly succeed in the same single goal. Some have to have goal X and others goal Y.
Our lives, interactions, and daily activities need not be the same. So our goal may be along different thoughts and perspectives. What is important is to ensure that your goal satisfies your instincts and allows you to be the dream you.
You need to choose your goal and be not influenced by other people’s goals. If you choose your unique goals, your unique abilities will begin to manifest for the achievement of your goals.
Your instincts are different and your goals will probably be. Having mastered your unique instincts, it is important to carve your goal around what you feel will be best for you.
It will surprise you that people in their quest to select a goal oftentimes choose the wrong goal. Just because Mr. A succeeds with a particular goal doesn’t mean Mr. B must succeed in the same.
What is best for an individual may not be the best for another individual. It’s not taboo if you’ve got the same goal as the other person. Just make sure it is your desired goal.
Have you ever noticed sometimes when you hear someone succeeded in something and that success doesn’t light you up? And you end up saying “so what?”.
Don’t worry, your reaction is not strange. It just shows that you don’t want to be involved in that goal.
If you are not illuminated by that success, it most probably shows that you are not poised for the goal behind that success.
That’s because it is not your goal. It’s not what you crave.
To choose the right goal, you need to talk to yourself, talk to your mind, and discover who you are and what you really want.
Figure out what brings deeper happiness to your soul, what lights you up, and what milestone you think brings comfort to yourself.
Try to picture where you would love to be at a certain time and that is your goal. Picture yourself with a successful adventure and see if that is what you want to see happen.
Have a clear foresight of your expectations as a successful individual. Do you find yourself yearning for that purpose in life?
Project yourself onto a screen with a successful milestone. Do have a good feeling that that should be you?
So prioritize your goal and set your preferences correctly. That goes a long way to set your journey in the right direction and destination.
Choosing the wrong goal not only gets you to the wrong destination. But it also wastes your resources to bring in nothing.
If you are fortunate to achieve a wrong goal, it may not bring fulfillment for you because it is not your much desired goal.

Lacking Confidence
Once you identify your goal, the most powerful statement you can tell your conscious mind is “you can do it”. And yes, you can.
Confidence is the ability to swim and propel yourself through an ocean of negative thoughts that are against your goal.
Do you notice that once you decide to achieve something at any moment of your life negative thoughts begin clog your mind and obstacles in the way of your achieving that goal begin to rain on your instincts? Do you see that glowing idea blurring out? It is because you are yet to build the necessary confidence.
The bad news is that once you allow these negative outlooks of your proposed goal to dominate your mind, you have failed just before taking the first step.
But that’s normal. The way out? Breathe in and out. Focus on that goal one more time. Refuel your thoughts with positive notions.
Tell yourself you are ready to get this purpose fulfilled. A weak mind cannot set and achieve strong goals. When you try to build some confidence within yourself, however, you are fueling and energizing the vehicle that takes you to your goal.
Confidence, when directed to the right objective or aim, moves mountains. It can generate invisible motivation. It can weed out poor energy. It can strengthen the pursuit of your goal in life.
Whenever a self-confident individual encounters a challenge, he makes a way through it, gets over it, and emerges more confident than before in the direction of his goal.
Setbacks will emerge in the quest for your goal. But confidence puts them back down.
On the other hand, an individual who lacks self-confidence isn’t going to go far. He sees every challenge as a drawdown. He capitalizes on those challenges as reasons to withdraw from the work he already started. He characterizes the obstacles as an excuse to refuse to proceed on a hitherto promising journey he had embarked upon and end up reclining in his comfort zone.

Not Taking Action
Take the first step. This is the single most important button that once pressed sets you in motion. It is the dividing line between goal-getters and dreamers.
Imagine if that first step is all you need to achieve your dream. Imagine that first step as knocking on a door that opens all breezes of strength for you.
Getting a goal defined is like planting a seed. For the seed to grow, given the optimal environment of soil and climate, proper nurturing follows. Watering at the right time and weeding when needed.
Say you have got a multi-million-dollar idea or solution to a problem. But you fail to put it to work. It is still not an idea or a solution unless you put it to work and take action.
How many times have you heard someone say “….Oh! I had that idea”. “Yes! I knew that solution….”. “….Oh! I almost said that.”, “….I was about to do that.” They failed to voice it into action. They lost it because the idea, goal or solution was not put to work.
Taking action is a test of the validity of your thoughts and plans. It shows that what you imagined is actionable and not just a wild impossible dream.
There is also more to taking action. When you take action, you oftentimes experience a fresh feeling of self-esteem.
This takes you higher in the successful pursuit of your dreams. Other steps fall in place, become easier, and come out clearer immediately after the first step is actioned.
Without a first action, there is no next and possibly last action to fulfilling a goal. Take that first action, that first motion, and that first accomplishment.
Taking action solidifies your thoughtful ideas and it’s the bridge that connects your idea with your goal. Thus, when you take the first action, you are halfway to your goal.
On the other hand, procrastination attenuates your momentum to take action. Apart from weakening the great connection you originally developed on your journey to self-accomplishment, it further disconnects and distances you from your objective.
You may lose focus through procrastination and that doesn’t seem to be what you want. Avoid procrastination using any means possible.

Not Recognizing Opportunities
To be able to succeed, you need to be on the look for opportunities that may help bring your dream to reality.
Opportunities are a set of conditions, usually outside your control, that creates a viable environment, setting, system, or means for a goal to be achieved successfully with fewer efforts.
Without the opportunities to catalyze your dream, you are going to struggle to implement the needed steps toward your goal.
You will feel too stuck at the beginning. Hence, the great idea or solution that defines your goal may die even before experimentation.
You need to be able to identify what works for and against your goal. Your ability to recognize the opportunities for and challenges against your goal exemplifies that you are on top of your game and you are ready for the challenge.
Take a seed as an example, the basic opportunities for it to germinate optimally and eventually grow are the right soil conditions and the right climate.
If you plant your seed in an unfavorable climate or soil environment, even if you water it adequately it may not grow at an optimal pace. It may eventually die before it reaches fruition.
Tactically and painstakingly identify conditions that bring your goals and objectives to fruition with little effort. Make a list of those conditions and find them.
Even if it takes a long period of waiting, a single opportunity can be the appropriate string that turns your goal into an actual reality.
